Meet the Artist

Hi, I'm Allyson Carlson, the artist behind Artist's Journey.

Growing up in Wisconsin, I've always felt most at home outdoors. Whether I'm hiking a trail, camping under the stars, kayaking across a quiet lake, or exploring a national park, nature has always been where I find inspiration. Trees, forests, and quiet landscapes remind me that beauty doesn't come from perfection—it comes from character. Just like Bob Ross taught, I believe in embracing the "happy accidents" that make every painting unique.

Ironically, if you had asked me in high school what I wanted to be, "artist" wouldn't have made the list. I was more interested in agriculture, joined the military early, and always thought of painting as just a hobby. It wasn't until my family asked me to teach them one of my paintings that I discovered how much I loved not only creating art, but helping others discover they could create it too.

One of my favorite moments in every paint & sip is hearing someone say, "I can't paint," only to watch them leave with a piece they're genuinely proud of. Every class begins with a completely blank canvas—no paint-by-numbers or pre-drawn sketches—because I believe everyone is an artist with their own style. My job is simply to help you discover it.

My partner, Peyton, has also become one of the biggest influences on my work. I often call him the sunshine in my life, bringing warmth and light wherever he goes. Over the years, I've realized that sunlight has quietly become one of my artistic signatures. You'll often find rays of light filtering through forests, reflecting across lakes, or breaking through the clouds—a reminder that even the simplest moments can feel extraordinary.

To me, Artist's Journey isn't about creating perfect paintings. It's about embracing the process, finding joy in the unexpected, and appreciating the beauty that exists in both nature and ourselves.
